Featuring Tim Barton, Chief Safety Officer, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, LSI Board President
Aims to provide a comprehensive guide for academic and research institutions on how to align with the latest EPA and OSHA regulations for methylene chloride. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the new regulatory requirements and learn effective methodologies for monitoring exposures and identifying exposure groups. The workshop will guide attendees through the process of developing Exposure Control Plans (ECP) to ensure compliance with current safety standards, including adjustments to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) addendums, and hazard communication.
Additionally, through expert-led discussions and interactive sessions, participants will have the opportunity to engage with subject matter experts, addressing specific concerns and sharing best practices to maintain a safe and compliant environment for handling methylene chloride.
0.4 CEUs available.
Workshop Goals:
- Understand Regulatory Requirements: Equip participants with a thorough understanding of the new EPA and OSHA regulations concerning methylene chloride, and how these affect laboratory safety protocols.
- Monitor Exposures and Exposure Groups: Provide methodologies for monitoring methylene chloride exposures, identifying exposure groups, and implementing appropriate control measures with proper documentation.
- Develop and Update Safety Documentation and ECP: Guide participants through the process of developing Exposure Control Plans (ECP) to reflect current safety standards and regulatory requirements. This includes adjustments to SOP, CHP addendums, and hazard communication to any persons exposed.
- Engage with Experts: Facilitate conversations with subject matter experts to help participants address specific concerns, share best practices, and ensure ongoing compliance with safety regulations.
This workshop is designed for laboratory and safety professionals from academic institutions, research organizations, government agencies, and private companies who are responsible for chemical safety and compliance. Attendees include roles such as Industrial Hygienists, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Managers, Chemical Hygiene Officers (CHO), laboratory coordinators, and chemists. The workshop will be particularly beneficial for those who work with or manage use of methylene chloride and ensure alignment with the latest EPA and OSHA regulations.
