Lab Safety 2.0 – Charting a New Path Forward
Presenter: Stephen Taylor, Ph.D.
2025 was a watershed year for science safety—and the lessons we learned are reshaping how LSI supports schools, colleges, and laboratories nationwide. Lab Safety 2.0 will offer an inside look at the data, insights, and innovations that are defining our new trajectory for 2026 and positioning us for transformative impact by 2030.
We’ll begin with a look at the evolving landscape of K–12 science safety. Drawing on national incident and program data, we’ll examine what we now understand about the real state of laboratory safety in U.S. schools—and most importantly, what LSI is doing to help. We’ll share how the Safety Program Summit has grown from a single regional event in 2024 to four in 2025, and now to 11 summits in 2026, with the bold goal of helping 1,000+ teachers strengthen their safety programs and positively impacting more than 120,000 students.
We’ll also preview where our work is expanding next: into community colleges and university teaching labs—both through deeper analysis of accident data and by supporting safety program development at the postsecondary level.
Participants will get an exclusive look at the major course developments coming in 2026, including:
- The launch of our new NFPA 45 course
- Our new OSHA 10 for Lab Safety, designed for lab technicians and high school students entering the STEM workforce
- The migration of all asynchronous LSI courses to Eurekos for a modern, enhanced learning experience
- Our commitment to updating all outdated materials and delivering fresh, high-quality content across our entire catalog
We’ll share how LSI is beginning to leverage emerging technologies and new partnerships to accelerate progress in science safety nationwide. And we’ll celebrate the thousands of educators and professionals who participated in LSI training this year—setting a high bar for excellence as we move into a year of new courses, expanded member benefits, and richer learning opportunities.
Lab Safety 2.0 is about more than updates—it’s about rethinking what accessible, effective, future-ready lab safety training can and should be. Join us as we chart the next chapter together.
