"Laboratory Safety Guidelines" was written while Dr. Kaufman worked for the Dow Chemical Company, in an attempt to share with schools, colleges, and universities what he was learning about lab safety.
In 1976, Dow sent copies to 2,000 college and university chemistry departments and received requests for 250,000 reprints! Since then, Dow (1986), Fisher Science Education (1989), Carolina Biological Supply Company (1994), Fisher Safety (2012), and Workrite (2017) have produced co-branded editions of the Guideline in various poster formats. The Guidelines have been translated into 20 languages. In all, over six million free copies have been distributed and reprinted in various forms. This e-book has an article expanding on the principles provided in each guideline, with anecdotes and reference information.
