It is the intent of this publication to promote science teaching in which students preform experiments rather than read about them. When students' experiments involve hazardous or toxic chemicals, teachers need specific information to develop guidelines which fulfill their legal responsibilities and ensure safety for both student (short-term exposure) and instructor (long-term exposure).
