Presenter: Stephen Taylor, Ph.D.

The Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI) is thrilled to introduce Stephen Taylor as our new Executive Director. As the newly appointed Executive Director of the Laboratory Safety Institute (LSI), Stephen will share our ambitious vision for 2024, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in our commitment to promoting safer science education and practice. Our mission, rooted in enhancing the safety culture within educational and professional laboratories, continues to be the guiding light of our initiatives.

In 2024, LSI remains dedicated to providing our well-established services and courses, designed to meet the ever-evolving needs of the scientific community. Our offerings are detailed at www.labsafety.org, serving as a testament to our enduring commitment to safety excellence.

Central to our new initiatives is the launch of the inaugural K-12 STEAM Safer Science Summit. This groundbreaking event aims to bridge the gap between safety knowledge and application in K-12 STEAM education, fostering a proactive safety culture from the ground up. By engaging educators, students, and industry professionals in a collaborative dialogue, we aspire to cultivate a safer, more informed future for science education.

Equally critical is our endeavor for a future of Safer Science is to establish a comprehensive digital platform for K-12 teachers and school systems. This platform will serve as a beacon for learning best practices in safer science education while navigating the complexities of compliance with local and national regulatory bodies. Our goal is to empower educators and education systems with the knowledge and tools necessary to integrate safety seamlessly into their curricula and ensure a safe and compliant learning environment for all students.

Lastly, we are embarking on an extensive update of all our educational content. This revitalization effort will ensure that our materials remain at the forefront of safety education, incorporating the latest research, technologies, and regulatory changes. Our commitment to continuous improvement reflects our dedication to the safety and well-being of the laboratory community.

Join us as we embark on this journey to enhance the culture of safety in science education and practice, laying the foundation for a safer tomorrow.
